CBS Co-operative has welcomed a major announcement from Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Building Minister Chris Penk regarding sweeping changes to liability within the construction sector, calling it the start of a new era for building in New Zealand. CBS previously recommended Government examine Australia’s model in its 2022 submission to the Commerce Commission’s Residential Building Supplies Market Study. While strongly supportive of this direction, CBS is highlighting key issues still needing attention: limited choice in home guarantees for consumers, and liability risks falling on individual Licensed Building Practitioners who may struggle to access adequate insurance.
