CBS Co-operative has released its 2026 Election Manifesto, a builder-led blueprint for a fairer, faster, and more certain building system. Developed through consultation with builders, suppliers, and industry stakeholders, the manifesto sets out practical recommendations to reduce unnecessary costs and better support both homeowners and the construction sector. Representing more than 2,200 builders and tradies across New Zealand and Australia, CBS has welcomed the Government’s proposed RMA reforms as a step toward improving housing affordability, while calling for further refinement of the proposed mandatory warranty scheme. CEO Carl Taylor says consumer protection should never depend on which membership group a builder belongs to, pointing to Queensland’s government-backed model as a better path forward. The manifesto also calls for faster consenting, proportionate liability, and greater certainty for small and medium-sized building businesses.
